We will be showing the award-winning “We Were Children” true story of two children who attended Indian Residential Schools diring the last half of the 20th Century. It is a powerful and moving story that all Canadians should see.
Following this 90 minute film, Andrew Baker, one of the Fire Keepers during the Dump Site 41 vigil and the Employment Training Coordinator at the Georgian Bay Native Friendship Centre in Midland, will lead a follow-up discussion. This is an exciting opportunity to learn about a sensitive and important issue facing the United Church — and all Canadians — in our time: how to help overcome one of the major tragedies in our country’s past.
Many of our First Nations friends made as a result of our shared involvement in resistance to Dump Site 41 have been deeply affected personally by the Residential Schools issue. Please join us for this important evening: film and discussion. No charge; but a freewill offering will be accepted to help defray expenses.
