Over half million dollars to pay for county councillors in 2012

Simcoe County council cost taxpayers $553,934 in salaries and $47,897 in mileage claims according to the annual filing of remunerations and expenses.
Councillors receive an annual salary of $8,479 and $212 per meeting they attend. The Warden’s salary is $55,000 while the Deputy Warden receives two-thirds of the Warden’s rate. Warden and Deputy Warden do not receive per diems.
Wasaga Beach mayor Cal Patterson, who is Warden of Simcoe County, topped the list with about $61,000 in remuneration and $8,547 for attending five conferences. Mr. Patterson gets a County paid-for vehicle as Warden so does not receive mileage.
Harry Hughes, mayor of Oro-Medonte, received approximately $37,000 in remuneration as Deputy Warden, claimed $2,505 in mileage and about $1,400 to attend two conferences.
New Tecumseth deputy mayor Rick Milne, was paid $16,325, claimed $2,427 in mileage and $1,814 to attend the AMO conference. Mr. Milne cost the Town $37,836
Mayor Mike MacEachern, whose New Tecumseth expense was $46,010 in 2012, was paid $13,569 as a County councillor, claimed $999 in mileage, and $1,444 to attend the AMO conference.
Adjala-Tosorontio mayor Tom Walsh was paid $13,357, claimed $1,371 in mileage, and $571 to attend the OGRA/ROMA conference, as a County councillor. Adjala-Tosorontio deputy mayor Mary Brett Small was paid $15,477 in salary, $2,257 for mileage, and $1,489 to attend AMO.
