Zero Waste Simcoe letter to Simcoe County Council January 18 2012
It has come the attention of the Board of Zero Waste Simcoe that Simcoe County is considering shipping curbside waste to an Ontario landfill site. This is our understanding as per item report CS 13-008 from the Corporate
Services Committee.
We want to state emphatically that this is not an acceptable option for waste management and does not lead Simcoe County any closer to becoming a Zero Waste jurisdiction.
We respectfully remind you that Zero waste Simcoe was a stakeholder in the development of the Stantec Report. It is this board’s understanding that Simcoe County was to continue to be a
leader in waste diversion, reduction, and recycling.  Entering into a new contract to landfill the majority of our remaining waste stream will slow this process.
We respectfully ask that you vote not to accept Corporate Services Committee item #CS 13-008 and instead, move more aggressively to implement Zero Waste policies.
Sincerely,
Peter Stubbins,
Chair, Zero Waste Simcoe
