COOKSTOWN — The sudden axing of dozens of century old Maples in Cookstown is expected to be the focus of a public meeting Tuesday evening.
More than a dozen heritage maple and walnut trees were unexpectedly cut down on Victoria Street East two weeks ago by the developer of the Belpark Homes project.
A petition calling for the preservation of the remaining trees is circulating around the village and can be signed by any interested individuals. It can be found at www.petitionbuzz.com/petitions/savecenturytrees
Tuesday’s meeting takes place at the Cookstown library and community centre from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
