Re: York Region: “Keep on sprawling cities told” Toronto Star, July 7, 2012.
While the rest of the world is looking to establish local food supplies for themselves maintaining their food security initiatives – here in Canada we are allowing foreign interests to buy up much of the remaining food lands.
And what does our system of governance do with the rest of our last remaining class 1, 2 and 3 farmlands? Why of course! We’re making futile attempts to get out of debt by allowing developers to pave it over following that obsolete growth model with the repeater templates of boring sprawl forfeiting our very own chance of having future foodland security for our next generations.
When we consider the bio-accumulative affects of the radioactive hot particle fallout delivered to us via the prevailing north west jet stream from the ongoing meltdowns of the numerous nuclear plants in Fukushima, Japan the need for protecting remaining arable lands for local consumption and control becomes even more urgent.
