By Vickie Kee AWARE Tiny May 17 2012
Deputy-Mayor Lawrence is absent.
Update on Balm Beach Parking spots in front of the businesses, from the minutes of the last meeting: Parking entirely on Public Property with non-pay/non-metred parking “Parking For Customers Only” be
accepted.
Thirty minute free parking at Georgian Grill Binghams parking spots and two hour free parking at the Surf Restaurant be implemented. “Parking For Customers Only” be placed at the above spots at the full cost of the adjoining businesses. An agreement be executed with the Township and affected parties in recognition of the above on a trial basis. Mayor Millar and Councillors Claire and Wishart voted in favour. Deputy-Mayor Lawrence and Councillor Warren were opposed.
-Discussion on the Cawaja Beach Property Owners Association oral submission from the last council meeting
is deferred until a full council is present.
-Apparently, a beach owner has planted an invasive species of grass on their property. The township staff will
be sending them a letter stating that it has to be removed.
-Mayor Millar brought forward a concern about who is responsible for the pollution at the MPT transfer station
on Golf Link road. (Midland, Penetanguishene, Tiny) The county-operated transfer station sits on part of the
old MPT landfill site which was closed in the 1970s. Ground water flow is mainly to the north with some flow
towards the road allowance owned jointly by Midland and Tiny Township. The executive summary of the
consultants 2007-08 bi-annual report said, in part, that an organic plume originates from the refuse disposal
area and extends in a northwesterly direction within the upper and lower portion of the sand unit beneath the
county forest lands and towards the southern portion of the Unimin property in Midland. It also states that
there is no threat to the water quality in local wells.
-Mayor Millar mentions that the County are doing interviews with each member of Council on the Governance
issue.
