AWARE Simcoe hosting meeting Saturday in Barrie
News release from AWARE Simcoe – May 21 2012
AWARE Simcoe wants to raise public awareness about the reasons for the shocking nearly 50% hike in the cost of electricity over the past several years.
The citizens’ group is hosting a meeting Saturday at 9:30 at Grace United Church in Barrie.  “A panel of three experts will present their perspective,” said AWARE Simcoe-Barrie board member Mariane Cancilla.
The panelists will include
-Jack Gibbons, Chair of Ontario Clean Air Alliance;
-Marty Lancaster, teacher of environmental science at Bear Creek S.S. in Barrie,
local councillor in Oro-Medonte and Renewable Energy & Feed-In-Tariff Program Specialist;
-Susan Hirst, President, Simcoe Huronia Association for Renewable Energy.
The public will be invited to present their views, questions, comments or concerns.
 “Our government needs to put its investment priority on improving energy efficiency rather than on tax incentives and tax breaks for the nuclear industry and the oil and gas sector,” Cancilla says.
“Canada needs sustainable energy solutions that overcome the serious threat posed by climate change and other environmental problems; and that is certainly not the path we currently seem to be following. ”
“This meeting is not just about public education, but about taking action on an urgent problem – our current energy woes”
