INNISFIL/BWG — South Simcoe Police see more crashes on Innisfil Beach Road than any other road in their jurisdiction.
There were 72 collisions on the 15-kilometre stretch between Lake Simcoe and Thornton last year.
IBR, which had the top three crash sites in Innisfil and Bradford West Gwillimbury in 2011, handles about 14,200 vehicles a day.
The highest collision rate was Innisfil Beach Road and 10th Sideroad, which saw 23 collisions.
South Simcoe Police will hold a highly visible safety campaign along IBR from April 23 to 29 to combat unsafe driving.
Officers are focusing their attention on County Road 88 in BWG this week, which has the second highest accident rate.
The nine-kilometre stretch between Disette Street and County Road 27 had 66 crashes last year. The road is one of the busiest in Simcoe County, with about 18,200 vehicles a day.
A recent review of collision locations found that eight of the top 20 crash locations are on County Road 88 or Holland Street West.
South Simcoe Police investigated 1,031 motor vehicle collisions last year, which injured 138 people. Two people were killed and 16 others had life-threatening injuries.
Almost all collisions can be attributed to some form of driver error, police say. The safety campaign is designed to be a high visibility initiative.  When motorists perceive they are at greater risk of receiving a traffic ticket, they are less likely to engage in risky
 driving behavior, police say.
A survey conducted by South Simcoe Police in January found 91.4 per cent of respondents said speed enforcement was either “extremely important” or “important”.
