UTOPIA, Ontario – Walter Benotto, Councillor for the Town of Shelburne, was elected Chair of the Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority Board of Directors for a fourth consecutive term at the NVCA’s Annual General Meeting on January 27, 2012.
Benotto has been an NVCA board member since 2001, and was first elected Chair in 2009.
“I look forward to working with the board to continue implementing our goals of protecting our source water and conserving our environment,” said Benotto. “I also look forward to working with our new Vice Chairs in our efforts to get signed MOUs with member municipalities, and to lobby the province for support of our conservation authority programs.”
Nina Bifolchi, Councillor for the Town of Wasaga Beach, was elected Vice Chair.
“In my position of Vice Chair my goal is to work with my fellow board members to ensure that the NVCA provides services that are responsible, accountable and beneficial to the NVCA’s mandate, our member municipalities and the property owner,” said Bifolchi.
The Second Vice Chair position was won by Darren White, Councillor for Dufferin County and Deputy Mayor for the Township of Melancthon.
“As an advocate for environmental stewardship and sustainability practices, as well as an avid outdoorsman, I look forward to helping lead the NVCA towards achieving our goal of protecting the natural heritage of this watershed,” White said.
The Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority’s jurisdiction is approximately 3,700 square kilometres and includes 18 municipalities in the counties of Simcoe, Dufferin and Grey.
