Ontario Nature is holding a one-day conference exploring the important role Ontario’s wetlands play in our ecosystems and how we can better protect these significant habitats.
At Ontario Nature, we are deeply concerned that more than 70 percent of southern Ontario’s original wetlands have been lost over the past two centuries. Ongoing industrial activity and urban sprawl are the dominant threats to sensitive wetlands. We believe we need to assess the state of the province’s wetland areas and consider meaningful strategies for safeguarding what we still have.
The conference is taking place on February 2, which is also World Wetlands Day, and will feature presentations from leading conservationist Ron Reid and other experts. You can also attend several panel discussions highlighting cutting-edge thinking about wetland conservation.
