Simcoe County news release October 31, 2011 – The County of Simcoe is proud to be partnering with the Canadian Diabetes Association’s Clothesline Program to provide textile diversion at all County waste management facilities.
Beginning November 1, residents may deposit acceptable items in the red Canadian Diabetes Clothesline
program bins located at all County of Simcoe waste management facilities during regular operating hours.
Gently-used clothing, bed linens, towels, draperies, footwear (in pairs) and fashion accessories are welcome.
The Solid Waste Management Strategy, approved by County Council in June 2010, recommended some
enhancements to the existing waste facility diversion programs, including the implementation of a textile diversion program in 2011.  The Strategy estimated that textiles comprise approximately 2.5% of the County’s total residential waste stream.
“This new partnership is just one more way that our residents can continue their commitment to diverting waste from landfills, while also supporting a very worthy cause,” said Simcoe County Warden Cal Patterson. The Clothesline program is operated by the Canadian Diabetes Association which works in partnership with Value Village thrift stores. The Clothesline program diverts more than 42,000 tonnes of clothing from landfills annually and has more than 1,500 drop box locations across Canada.
