The following resolutionwas adopted at the annual meeting of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture.
“Whereas the province of Ontario has an ongoing responsibility to protect and preserve food producing land for future generations and whereas the Ontario Federation of Agriculture supports the agricultural sector of the economy and thereby the continued good use of farmland and indeed the improvement thereof, and
Whereas large areas of food producing Honeywood silt loam in Melanchthon Township, Dufferin County could be destroyed forever if an application for a limestone quarry is approved.
Therefore, be it resolved that the Ontario Federation of Agriculture assign a team to actively engage in the Environmental Assessment process for the Highland quarry application in Melancthon township with the intent of preserving farmland and water.”
