BARRIE – Barrie is paying more than triple the average cost per tonne in its operation of the city landfill, though residents’ user fees are better.
CAO Jon Babulic presented council with a financial review of services Monday night. He said data from the Ontario Municipal Benchmarking Initiative (OMBI) was used in his report, which compares costs and service levels with other municipalities.
In garbage, the good news is residential collection costs $63.39 per tonne, versus $133.27 in other municipalities.
However, the overall cost in Barrie is $356.36 per tonne in operating costs, while other municipalities pay $108.46 on average.
