Change proposed to address province’s lack of respect

Calling it a “monumental night in the Town of Innisfil,” Mayor Barb Baguley opened the special meeting of Council on May 11, to present a plan for implementing Inspiring Innisfil 2020, the Town’s new Strategic Plan.
The meeting included a presentation by consultants, Dr. Bob Woodburn and Tony Leighton – and a bombshell, what Dr. Woodburn called “a real game-changer”: a proposal to change the municipality’s name.
 
Consultant says the name ‘Innisfil’ carries baggage

A consultant has recommended a name change for the Town of Innisfil, as part of an image revitalization plan.Meant to help attract business and rebrand the town in the eyes of the provincial government, a new name is one of the main pillars needed in the successful implementation of Inspiring Innisfil 2020, according to consultant Tony Leighton.
 
Money would be better spent on other intiatives, opponents argue

There were some bewildered looks on the faces of local residents, after a consultant recommended Innisfil’s name should be changed.
