Barrie Industrial Chemical Recycler Found Guilty of Ontario Fire Code Violations Again – One Year Later

Approximately one year after being found guilty of violating the Ontario Fire Code, a local chemical recycler and its officers have pled guilty to 8 additional counts of code violations and received fines totaling $30,000 including victim surcharge fees.   
“As caretakers of our community, we are obliged to mitigate the risks that the storage of large quantities of flammable or combustible materials poses to the environment and the residents of Barrie,” said Fire Prevention Officer Judith Myddelton.  “When a company is reluctant to take the action that is required by legislation, we will pursue every avenue available to us to ensure the safety of our community.”
 Barrie Fire & Emergency Service is committed to working with industrial business owners and the landlords of industrial properties to ensure they understand their responsibilities with respect to fire safety and emergency planning to protect the safety of the community and the environment.
Chemical recycler fined $30,000

A south-Barrie industrial chemical recycler has plead guilty to violating the Ontario Fire Code and been fined $30,000, including victim surcharge fees.
2R Services, at 60 Churchill Dr., and its officers plead guilty to eight counts of code violations – just a year after being found guilty in provincial offences court of 12 other counts of violating fire codes.

Ontario’s Environment Ministry is now overseeing, monitoring and limiting operations at a Barrie industrial chemical recycler.
2R Services, located at 60 Churchill Dr., has been fined twice in the last year for violating the Ontario Fire Code.
