Port Hope is back in the spotlight. The town’s nuclear past is its legacy and its curse. Eldorado Nuclear Ltd., which refined radium used for treating cancer, and uranium that helped the Manhattan Project develop the first atomic bombs, provided employment to hundreds in the town. But it also left Port Hope riddled with low-level radioactivity — and rancour.
