2011 property tax picture now in focus for New Tecumseth

Simcoe County has confirmed the tax ratios lower tier municipalities use to allocate the “tax burden” between the various assessment classes, and for New Tecumseth ratepayers, the overall average tax bill will increase by $55.04 or 1.9 per cent over last year.
When all combined, the four components of a property tax bill in New Tecumseth assessed against a residential property with an average assessment of $283,477, will total $2,957.70, which is up from $2,902.66 in 2010.
Based on the average assessed value of a residential home, the municipal portion is $1,424, an increase of $46.50 or 3.38 per cent; County is $752.74, up $11.98 or 1.62 per cent; County waste management is the only decrease coming in at $126.13, down $8.19; and education, which is $654.83, an increase of $4.75 or .73 per cent.
