The Parsons Road reservoir in Alliston will undergo a $7.7 million expansion that will permit Tottenham to be connected to the water pipeline between Collingwood and Alliston.
Financing the project, which was still short on details this morning, will come from development charges – even though there are insufficient monies in the DC accounts. The Town is hedging that development demands are more than enough to cover the final project costs.
Beeton has been connected to the reservoir, and pipeline for several years. Beeton is also connected to the regional sewage plant. However, remediation work at the wastewater treatment plant in Tottenham over the past few years, means it will not have to be decommissioned, saving millions of dollars by not having to connect Tottenham to the regional plant.
In addition, the capital budget also provides $400,000 out of the estimated $12.2 million estimated to pay for the transmission line to Tottenham. There’s also $1.5 million showing in development contributions for work to the sewage treatment plant in Tottenham.
By 2031, it’s estimated Tottenham will require 11,413 cubic meters of water per day. The former village is currently supplied by four wells providing a maximum
daily demand of 3,907 cubic meters per day. A Certificate of Approval from
the MOE allows for up to 6,000 cubic meters per day.
Below is the approved development in Tottenham that is currently hampered by servicing constraints – which the reservoir expansion will help alleviate.
559 units, Part of Lots 7 and 8 Conc. 4 (east of the tracks between the 4th and 5th Line). This plan includes a public elementary school, commercial block, and park;
604 units, Part of Lots 7 Conc. 3 (east of the tracks, south of the 4th Line). This plan includes park blocks and commercial block;
632 units, Part of Lot 6, Conc. 3 (between Tottenham Road and the tracks at the 3rd Line). This plan includes a Catholic school, church block, and a commercial block.
