Six new members on board of health

There are six new faces on the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit’s board of health, which held its inaugural meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 19.
Newcomers are Councillor Sandy Cairns of Gravenhurst, Gord McKay, mayor of Midland, Councillor Linda Murray of Orillia, and Clearview Township Deputy Mayor Alicia Savage, Georgian Bay Councillor Mike Kennedy and Tay Township Mayor Scott Warnock, who had served on the board between 2006 and 2008. Returning to the board of health are Barrie Councillors John Brassard and Barry Ward, Wasaga Beach Mayor and County Warden Cal Patterson, and provincial appointees Fred Hamelink, Gail Mullen, Margaretta Papp-Belayneh, Ben Rattelade and Douglas Skeaff.
Barry Ward and Scott Warnock were acclaimed as chair and vice chair respectively.
“It is an honour to be named as chair of the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit,” Ward said. “I’m proud to be part of a great organization devoted to protecting and improving the health of area residents. I want to thank past chair Dennis Roughley for the great job he has done in leading the health unit over many years.
