The 10-member New Tecumseth council-elect will come together for an all-day information boot camp on November 29, two days prior to the swearing-in ceremony December 1.
They’ll meet as a new council in committee for the first time on December 6 – the first full-agenda meeting of New Tecumseth council since Aug. 30, a three-month hiatus that included a municipal election October 25.
Mayor Mike MacEachern wrote this morning in an email that he doesn’t expect the new council to “be overwhelmed with a heavy agenda” as a result of the time lapse.
“The business of the municipality is not being affected,” noted the mayor. “If there was a critical decision requiring council to meet we would have held a special meeting. Again many of the items requiring decisions were dealt with by the previous council as staff and council were aware of the previously passed calendar of meetings for 2010.”
The orientation session is expected to touch on a wide variety of subjects the new council will deal with immediately.
“Yes it will touch on a lot of information. Most of the topics were identified as areas of interest by the newly elected council members. The session may identify areas for further discussion. It is anticipated that the session will last all day.”

New interim EA for mayor, CAO
Some office movement to cover for long term sick leave at the New Tecumseth Administration Centre has been filled by Katie Bagshaw as she was named interim Executive Assistant to mayor MacEachern and CAO Terri Caron this week, in the absence of Nancy Rugman. Ms. Bagshaw is the Town’s Economic Development Coordinator.
