Ward 2 recount proves Brown the winner

CLEARVIEW TOWNSHIP — In the end, the numbers didn’t lie.
At the request of John Millar, a candidate for council in Clearview Township, a recount was conduction for the Ward 2 results from last month’s elections.
Millar lost the race to incumbent Orville Brown by a single vote, prompting him to ask for the recount.
That recount was carried out Monday with precisely the same results.
“The recount for Ward 2 has been completed and results remain the same,” said clerk Bob Campbell.
Brown collected 285 votes, while Millar had 284.
“The bottom line is there is always room for error,” Millar told the Enterprise- Bulletin after he asked for the recount last month. He acknowledged he had a scrutineer review the counting on election night, though that person may not have been familiar with the process.
“I wouldn’t do this for five or 10 votes; I don’t think it’s unreasonable (for one vote).”
The recount was conducted in the same fashion as election night with the ballots going through the tabulation equipment.
“The (Municipal Elections Act) says you have to do it the same as the original (count),” said Campbell.
