Dowdall would make excellent mayor
Letter to the Blue Mountains Courier-Herald October15 2010
What Dave Guergis has been trying to do to the NVCA has been the red flag that got me looking closer at local politics.
As scary as some of it is, with some candidates making statements that are misleading, it has also been very rewarding to meet people who have a real desire to do what is right for all.
One such person is Susan Antler, who has led the fight to restore the Utopia Grist Mill, at personal sacrifice of time and money. Her efforts to maintain 50 acres in trust for present and future generations is inspiring.
Another such person is Terry Dowdall, candidate for mayor. I believe that Terry will lead our township with integrity. Not just Terry’s presentation of himself, but what other people have to say about Terry tell me this about him:
He recognizes the contributions of people who work to achieve success in and for our community, such as the recent achievement of the high school.
He listens to the residents of our township, such as on the issue of Site 41, solar panels on farmland, and the need for expanded library services. He believes that all residents are entitled to safety, not just some residents.
He also recognizes the importance of protecting the environment for present and future residents, and the worth of conservation authorities to guide strategies to do just that. While he wants to work to bring economic growth to Essa, development and profit will not trump wise land use.
He recognizes that the role of mayor fits within a democracy, and a respectful working relationship with other council members is important. His rapport with the majority of the present council is evidence of this quality.
I look forward to the good that will come to Essa under Terry’s leadership.
