Barrie Examiner – August 18 2010
A citizens group that hopes to raise awareness surrounding issues leading up to this October’s municipal elections will host two public meetings in the coming days.
AWARE Simcoe says it’s a citizens group that wants municipal councils that will conduct its business openly, safeguard the environment and local communities while also being mindful of spending tax dollars and future debt.
The first meeting will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Innisfil Community Church, The Life Centre, located at 1571 Innisfil Beach Rd.
The speaker will be Dr. Doug Jernigan, a behaviour consultant, who coaches individuals on how to master their “people” frustrations.
Dr. Jernigan was a practising veterinarian in Topeka, Kan., for 35 years.
In 2007, he left his practice to pursue a career as an author, public speaker and human behaviour consultant.
The doctor lives in Innisfil with his wife, Sondra.
He is a member of the Rotary Club of Barrie, the Barrie Chamber of Commerce, the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association and is Rotary District 7010 representative for the newly chartered Rotary Club of Innisfil.
Another meeting will be held Thursday, Aug. 26 beginning at 7 p.m. at the Elmvale Royal Canadian Legion in Springwater Township.
The legion is located at 7 John St.
AWARE Springwater says it wants to collect information before endorsing candidates its members feel will best serve their communities.
