New Tecumseth mayor Mike MacEachern did not distance himself this afternoon from speculation that he would be interested in seeking the Conservative nomination in Simcoe-Grey if the riding association was ordered to find a new candidate to replace incumbent MP Helena Guergis.
“No comment on that,” replied mayor MacEachern in an email this afternoon.
Yesterday, Free Press Online reported that Ward 5 councillor Jess Prothero was also exploring the idea of contesting the nomination. Collingwood mayor Chris Carrier in the north end is another with rumoured interest.
Mayor MacEachern, currently in his second term as mayor of New Tecumseth, has registered to run for a third term.
Simcoe Grey Conservatives will hold a “members only” Annual General Meeting on Saturday morning where they will elect their new board of directors. But the executive are still uncertain whether the Party will order a nomination contest at a future date.
