New Tecumseth mayor Mike MacEachern told Free Press Online this morning that he has no recollection of Simcoe County’s Corporate Services Committee voting “to have the Conservation Authorities taken right out of the planning process and that the planning roles and responsibilities be moved to the Upper Tier County Planning Department,” as the minutes of an executive committee of the NVCA attribute to Essa mayor David Guergis.
Mayor MacEachern is vice-chair of the County’s Corporate Services Committee.
“No, I don’t recall this,” wrote the mayor in an email. “I can only recall a discussion about working more closely with the Conservation Authorities.”
Mr. MacEachern also draws a blank on another reference attributed to Mr. Guergis in the minutes of that meeting where he told the executive committee that “the Mayors of Simcoe County” were scheduled in April to meet with Ontario Minister of Natural Resources Minister, Donna Cansfield, “to present planning reports showing how much development had been delayed/cancelled because of Conservation Authorities preventing or slowing development.”
“I wasn’t invited if that happened,” noted Mr. MacEachern.
At this post, several messages sent to Essa mayor Guergis, Corporate Services chair Doug Little, County Warden Tony Guergis, Corporate Services general manager Rick Newlove, and the County’s clerk department, had not been returned. A review of Corporate Services agendas posted on the County’s web site, show no references to Corporate Services vote the Essa mayor referenced.
