Penetanguishene will be holding its first annual “Freecycle” Treasure Hunt on Saturday, October 3. Here’s how it works: Residents are encouraged to place unwanted items at the curb between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 pm. The community at large is welcome to tour the town throughout the day in search of “Freecycle” items and pick up what they can use. This is a fun way to promote reduce, reuse and recycle as a vital part of obtaining Zero Waste. It encourages people to find a new home for useful items they may not want any more instead of putting them in the garbage. It is hoped that the “Freecycle” Treasure Hunt will become an annual event.

This is a great idea! Midland should consider having one of these days too.

Why limit it to Midland? This is a great idea.

I’m in Halton Hills, every month or so we have “large item pickup day” and we get a lot of people cruising around checking stuff out. The trouble is, a lot of is is trash, but lots have found treasures!
