from your HAPPY HENS of Utopia

Hello!

Really hope that all is well.

We are going to have another pie sale next Saturday – August 22nd (10am – 1pm).

We will be baking 4 types: our Rhubarb Custard, Strawberry-Rhubarb Crisp, Cherry & Lemon Meringue. The pies are $10 each.

Also – celebrating the current harvests, we also will have Zucchini-Chocolate-Walnut Loaf as well as a really lovely Peach Cake (it is not a “tall” cake; about 2” high, round). Each of these will be $5.

IF ANY OF THESE ARE OF INTEREST TO YOU, IT WOULD BE REALLY HELPFUL if you would let Stephanie know in advance please (slmhm68@gmail.com; 705-737-9821; by Thursday evening the 20th please). That way, we can make sure that we have baked the right quantity.

As you know, this sale benefits the Friends of the Utopia Mill & Park, providing funding for the many projects in the Utopia Conservation Area (we do account for the cost of the ingredients prior to giving any money raised to Friends).

ALSO – we want you to know that we are using organic flour & sugar as well eggs which are from free-range (and happy) hens. Also – we have decided that our pie crusts will now be made with butter instead of vegetable shortening. We learned that the vegetable shortening also contains palm oil and we just can’t support using Crisco any longer, believing that the orangutans need their jungles more than we need vegetable shortening.

There will be lots of different types of jams available. We made dill pickles this past weekend which are really tasty … so there will be some jars of these as well.

It will be a CASH sale; our size doesn’t warrant a VISA/interac machine.

Thank you for your continued support.

Enjoy this wonderful weather.
