News release from the Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority

There’s something fishy planned for Beeton Creek this fall.

Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority (NVCA) and South Simcoe Streams Network (SSSN) are working to restore a section of Beeton Creek between Coventry Park and 6th Line in Tottenham. This includes re-establishing a rainbow trout spawning migration route and converting a pond into a dynamic, fast-flowing trout nursery habitat.

The restoration will improve habitat for trout and other aquatic life, and water quality in Beeton Creek and downstream to the Nottawasaga River and eventually Georgian Bay. Recreational fishing opportunities in the river and in the bay will benefit as well.

For those wanting to learn more, NVCA and SSSN are hosting a community information workshop on Tuesday, September 11, 2018, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Tottenham Community Centre at 139 Queen St. North, Tottenham.

The workshop will cover details on where and when work will take place, what improvements are planned, the benefits of the project, and how residents can get involved. There will be guest presentations from The Town of New Tecumseth and Nottawasaga Steelheaders.
