Paul Beaton – New Tecumseth Ward 6

My name is Paul Beaton and I am running for councillor in Ward 6 of New Tecumseth.

I have proudly lived with my family in Beeton for the past six years. I have studied political science at Royal Military College and combined with being a police officer for 16 years and a member of the Canadian Forces army reserves for 24 years, I have proved to be a fair and dedicated leader. I believe in service to my community and helping in whatever capacity I can.

My decision to run for council was not taken lightly, but I truly believe that I can make a positive change in the lives of the residents here, especially in these three areas: Responsible development, a recreation centre for Beeton and supporting local business.

As in any community, new development is a concern, but by embracing limited, well-planned and responsible development, we can provide affordable housing within the limits of our infrastructure — all while providing the stewardship for the environment that is needed.

After talking with many residents, there is an appetite to have a recreation centre in Beeton. With our current arena nearing the end of its lifespan, decisions have to be made about what the future holds for Beeton in terms of a new facility. Planning for growth, planning for families and planning for an aging population are all very important areas to consider. The choices made today will impact tomorrow and beyond.

Small business is the heart of any community, providing opportunities for employment and providing the goods and services we need daily. I will support the efforts of the BIA and economic development department in order to make Beeton a destination for visitors.
