Jonathan Main – Midland Ward 1
from Midland Mirror
As an experienced councillor and lifelong Midlander, I am seeking re-election as a Ward 1 councillor in Midland.
I am excited to continue to use my experience, passion, strong people skills and love of the community to strengthen the quality of life for our town.
A graduate of Monsignor Castex, St. Theresa’s High School and McMaster University in civil engineering and society, I am a community advocate, volunteer, and a diehard soccer fan.
I live on Fourth Street with my wife and our two young children.
These are four of the key policy areas which I will continue to advocate for upon re-election.
1) Livable community: a great place to live for people of all ages and abilities
We need to continue to invest in initiatives and develop policies regarding environmental and social issues. These include urban tree management, public art, access to green space, and community safety. We should continue to prioritize community engagement with the development of a youth engagement strategy.
2) Accessibility and mobility: safe and accessible roads for all road users
We need to continue to focus on complete street policies that make it easier for people to walk, take transit, bicycle, skateboard, and use their wheelchairs. There are exciting opportunities, especially with the upcoming multi-modal transportation plan.
3) Culture, special events and tourism: A robust creative economy
Midland has had incredible success with Ontario’s Best Butter Tart Festival, with which I am a proud festival volunteer and steering committee member. We should support and expand minor and major special events on our waterfront, downtown and at Little Lake Park, and continue to allocate funding toward the Cultural Plan.
4) Community building and economic development: Smart urban planning policies that promote growth
We need to continue to prioritize downtown revitalization with the upcoming reconstruction of King Street and work to ensure that there is a spectrum of housing options, with a focus on affordable housing.
