The following submission to the Ontario government from Dr. William Shotyk of the Elmvale Foundation  regarding the proposed Greenbelt study area was presented to Springwater Township Council yesterday by Kate Harries.

Elmvale Foundation – Protecting Water (15 January, 2018)

Shotyk, the Bocock chair of Agriculture and the Environment at the University of Alberta, urges inclusion in the province’s study area of the Simcoe Uplands (locally known as the Waverley Uplands and French’s Hill), the recharge area for the important artesian spring waters of Springwater, Tiny and Tay Townships. “These are arguably the cleanest natural waters on Earth. I have no doubt about their unique quality and inherent value.”

We have an obligation to our children, their children and their children to leave the earth in a better place. The Waverly Uplands/French’s Hill water is that better place in Tiny Township that must be preserved. Before the area is permanently damaged with the removal of aggregate and the purest water contaminated because the natural filtration of this recharge area is being bulldozed and extracted. The purest water in the world is being used to wash gravel. There is something wrong with this picture that we would allow this travesty to continue. Everyone who wants to be a part of this community in supporting WaverlyUplands/French’s Hill please voice your concern. Your voice, your concern should be heard loud and clear by/for the future generations. Our ancient and current water needs our help that it may be protected for those to come long after we have gone.
