After nearly a decade, Richard and Robin Norcross have informed the Town they are prepared to surrender their agreement to operate the concessions and vending machine operation at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre (NTRC) at no cost to the municipality.

In a letter to Town Clerk Cindy Maher, which is expected to be included on Monday night’s committee of council meeting agenda, Ms. Norcross, who is listed as President of 2178694 Ontario Inc. said the move was “with the best interests of the Town being foremost” considering a review of the Hornet’s Nest operation was underway.

The Norcross’s were awarded the concession, vending machine, Hornet’s Nest operation, and exclusive rights to food and beverages at the NTRC in conjuction with its opening back in 2007-08. The Town paid more than $750,000 for the leasehold improvements at the NTRC.

In 2012, the previous council voted to pay the Ward 6 councillor $50,000 to terminate his rights to the food and beverage component of the contract he holds at the facility. Following that, they renewed a five year deal for the concessions and vending in exchange for paying the Town 10 per cent of gross sales as rent considerations. That also included an option to renew for another five years, which this action would negate.

“The best needs of the Town are paramount in working through this process to optimize guest services,” Ms. Norcross wrote. “Currently, the snack bar is closed for the season (other than special events) and is set to re-open in September. We could mutually coordinate the transition if the Town is in agreement.”
