Essa Township mayor and Simcoe County Deputy Warden Terry Dowdall was elected to the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) Board of Directors during its 78th Annual Conference in Edmonton, held June 5 to 8.

The Board of Directors, comprised of elected municipal officials and affiliate members, sets policy priorities that reflect the concerns of municipal governments and affiliate members. It meets quarterly to develop policy positions on key national municipal issues, according to its web site.

“I am honoured and humbled to have been elected by my fellow Ontario delegates to represent the Province of Ontario as a member of the FCM Board of Directors,” said Mr. Dowdall in a press release issued this morning. “We must face growing demands on our services while finding fiscally responsible methods to address increasing needs in healthcare, social services, infrastructure, emergency services, and housing investments in our communities. Accomplishing this will take partnerships and collaboration among all our municipalities.”

Mr. Dowdall was elected to his third term as Essa mayor last October, and serving his first stint as deputy warden.
