Honda of Canada Manufacturing (HCM)’s application to amend New Tecumseth’s Official Plan (OPA 50) and Zoning bylaw is scheduled for a May 26th Simcoe County council vote. The County is the approval agency. It’s a quick turnaround on the upper tier’s vote as New Tecumseth approved the amendments on April 13.The OPA and zoning changes are required by HCM to facilitate the development of a 5,200 vehicle parking lot to be used for storing assembled vehicles, and a parking area for 300 truck trailers. Longer term plans include a fire training centre, a future 6,000 sq. ft office building and a future associate parking area.

The subject site, which includes the portion of Tottenham Road which was closed to accommodate HCM’s engine plant expansion, is 111 ha (274 acres), and includes approximately 1,200 metres of frontage along the east side of Industrial Parkway, and about 720 metres along the south side.

Spring Creek runs through the northwest portion of the proposed development area,  designated ‘Environmental Protection 2’ which will remain in place and creates at least 50m buffer.
