There’s a new sheriff in town and he wants to hear from you.

New Bradford West Gwillimbury Mayor Rob Keffer says he’s looking forward to creating a more inclusive council that will inspire community engagement in the town’s decision-making process.

“There will be more community engagement, there will be more people coming out to council meetings, there will be public meetings where people will get to voice their opinions about what’s going on in their community,” Keffer said about the next four years with him as mayor.

He said he wants to host public engagement meetings in the various wards where councillors will be able to listen to their constituents about the issues in their communities.

“Hopefully this creates a feeling of being included in the decision making and that we want to listen to residents,” Keffer said.

With the new term of council, town committees will be starting back up as well. Keffer anticipates a large number of people applying for committee roles and there will be committees that didn’t exist before. The new mayor wants to hear from the public on more decisions.

Keffer encourages residents to apply for committee roles, some that will start immediately, while others will be introduced later on during this term of council.

He’s also looking forward to working with the new council and the four new councillors at the table.

“They’re very well versed in the procedure and a lot of the issues, so I’m confident that they will be a great part of the team,” Keffer said.
