Experienced local leader outlines a better plan forward

Keffer campaign news release

BRADFORD–Mayoral candidate, local farmer and businessman, and current deputy mayor Rob Keffer proved this evening that he is the best candidate to steward residents’ hard-earned tax dollars while building a better town.

Debating at the Bradford Board of Trade/Holland Marsh Growers’ Association mayoral forum, Keffer showed his solid grasp of the fiscal challenges Bradford West Gwillimbury faces while speaking thoughtfully about investing to improve the town.

“I believe you deserve better accountability and more respect for your hard-earned tax dollars than you’ve seen over the past eight years,” Keffer said. “As your new mayor, I will bring a common-sense approach to budgeting so we can find savings and keep taxes low, while investing in what matters.”

Speaking to his positive plan for our future, Keffer said, “Throughout the campaign, I have shared thorough, thoughtful policy papers on my website, robkeffer.ca. These papers outline my goals to build on our strengths and make a difference in peoples’ lives, including investing in improvements to the community centre, in seniors’ housing, better roads and bridges, and a more achievable plan for economic growth.”

In answer to residents’ questions, Keffer stressed the need to institute a more accountable culture at Town Hall, including supporting a lobbyist registry so voters know whether developers and other special interests are influencing local decision making. He fielded questions on various issues related to growth and economic development, and spoke to his ability to work with the county, provincial and federal levels of government.

Rob Keffer has been a community leader in Bradford West Gwillimbury for decades, serving on agricultural, environmental and service organisations. As deputy mayor, he pushed for the new bus transit system, worked with the province to improve access to local healthcare in an affordable way, called for improvements to the downtown cores and the preservation of heritage, and for investments in seniors’ housing. His plan for the future builds on our strengths. He is the only candidate to share a thorough, thoughtful plan for voters’ consideration.
