MIDLAND – A former volunteer firefighter, town councillor and police services board chairman is hoping to become Midland’s next deputy mayor.
Doug Reed said his goal is to work hard to maintain Midland as a great place to live, raise a family and retire. He made special mention of the choice the town faces with regard to the newly purchased waterfront lands.

MIDLAND – Another contender for Midland council is taking issue with a $50 fee to participate in a Southern Georgian Bay Chamber of Commerce all-candidates debate.
Doug Reed, who is running to become deputy mayor, said he is pulling out of the Sept. 17 event “with a great deal of reluctance.”
“On principle, I oppose a $50 fee to speak freely to valued ratepayers,” he explained in an email to The Mirror.
