Tiny Township Report – October 31 Council meeting
By Vickie Kee AWARE Tiny November 3 2011
Staff Sergeant Andrew Ferguson of the Southern Georgian Bay Provincil Police (Midland) presented to Tiny Council their new policing contract. He gave a brief explanation of the services that are provided by the O.P.P.
Recent noteworthy events for the detachment were cited: They participated in Caledonia in 2008, nothing in 2009, the Midland tornado in 2010 and sent some officers to help Goderich in 2011.
I seem to recall, in 2009, that they were very busy in their own backyard, meaning Tiny Township. They even had to call in extras from other detachments to help them to do whatever it was that they were trying to do. None of this was mentioned but then, it is not something to brag about.
This presentation was received and referred to staff.
Nestle Waters
Mayor Ray Millar asks if there is any discussion on the presentation made by John Challinor, representing Nestle Waters, from the previous council meeting. Nobody says anything and Ray says “Good”.
County Council Update
Simcoe County will be taking over leaf and yard waste collection. Mayor Ray Millar and Deputy-mayor George Lawrence are against this decision. They say that Tiny can do its own leaf pickup for half of what the County charges. George asks Henk Blom, manager of public works, to work with the County on this issue and perhaps do a presentation to Corporate Services. Tiny Township does have a Certificate Of Approval (C of A)  from the Ministry Of The Environment for leaf pickup.
Apple Tree
An angry private beach owner has put in a complaint about an apple tree dropping its apples in a handicapped parking spot located at the Eighth Concession and Tiny Beaches Road South near Stott Park. She wants the tree cut down but I see no reason to do this. The Township staff does a good job in picking up those apples. If something has to be done, why not move the handicapped parking sign over to the other side? Not a big deal.
