Beginning in early next year, tow truck companies will need an office in Innisfil, if they want to solicit business within town limits.
Innisfil council will debate the merits of a provision in the municipality’s tow truck bylaw, which requires companies to have an office setup within town commercial zones by Feb. 28, during meeting tonight. Under the bylaw, tow truck businesses will need to perform dispatch and administrative duties out of the office.
“I have great concern over trucks that do not meet the standards of this new bylaw,” said councillor Lynn Dollin. “Perhaps when we look at this, we should take into account the people in charge of towing for South Simcoe Police, as well as our local companies that are legally licenced to operate.”
The debate stems from letters submitted by Currie Heavy Towing and Elliott’s Towing, which express concern over the bylaw.
“Elliott’s Towing has been servicing the Bradford and surrounding area for many years, and over the past couple have ventured into assisting police for the residents in the area,” said Elliott’s president Keith Roy. “We have abided by the town bylaws in the past, by purchasing town licences, and would like to continue this in the future. However, we apparently have an issue renewing this year, due to the fact we do not have a business in the town. Our intention is not to take away from businesses in the area; only to help local police and residents.”
