Ward 3 Councillor releases Deputy Mayor platform
Pine Ridge Ski Club was the setting Sunday afternoon for the official launch of Sandy Agnew’s campaign to become Oro-Medonte’s Deputy Mayor in the upcoming municipal election.

Several people kicked off proceedings by telling the assembled crowd why they were supporting Sandy’s campaign. Speakers referred positively to his record as a champion of the environment, pointed to his personal qualities of integrity and civility, and endorsed his vision for Oro-Medonte as a collection of healthy rural communities.
Sandy introduced his platform, focusing on developing a more open style of government, the creation of a strong, prosperous and diverse economy, and the preservation of our rural heritage. His audience applauded his determination to re-instate the Planning Advisory Committee to oversee the review of Oro-Medonte’s Official Plan and the integration of the Lake Simcoe Protection Plan legislation. “Oro-Medonte’s slogan ‘Environment First’, must be more than just words,” Agnew said.
Steps to improve governance include holding evening meetings for greater accessibility, continuous improvement in Internet communications for residents, and adoption of respectful and courteous behavior in all Council dealings.
On the economy, Agnew would encourage economic development efforts and support of home-based entrepreneurial and green businesses for which hi-speed Internet access is critical. Support for farmers to make adequate income from their land and for recreational businesses that use our natural resources sustainably are key. “I would like to see collaboration with Lakehead University and Georgian to develop a green economy that will provide prosperity and a healthy future for our young people,” said the candidate.
“Protection of our water and natural resources, striving toward Zero Waste, and restoration of a positive working relationship with the Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority and restored funding for Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority are essential elements of maintaining healthy rural communities,” Agnew noted.
Municipal elections take place in Ontario on Monday, October 25. More information on Sandy Agnew’s campaign can be obtained by visiting the website: www.Agnew4DM.ca or by phone at 705-835-6824.
