Simcoe County council will meet for strategic planning sessions on May 28 and June 11 and “Governance” is on the agenda, with a focus on two previous restructuring-type reports from 2008, produced in-house, and the 2010 Berkeley consulting firm report.
Parts of those reports’ recommendations have been implemented including a return to a committee of the whole structure and creating a Deputy Warden position.
But other key aspects have failed to win support since 2008. Those included reducing the size of council from 32 members to 16; making the Warden a full-time, four year term; direct elections; eliminating weighted votes; and regional planning, or “area wide planning.”
