Nottawasaga listing gets nod from Clearview
Clearview Township has become the second municipality to support AWARE Simcoe’s campaign to get the Nottawasaga River listed under the federal government’s new Navigation Protection Act.
The first council to come on board was Essa Township.
Monday night Clearview Council passed a resolution that reads as follows:
WHEREAS the Federal Government is replacing the Navigable Waters Protection Act with the Navigation Protection Act; and
WHEREAS the Notttawasaga River has played an important historic role and continues to provide an important recreational boating resource to residents and visitors and the local hospitality and tourism industries; and
WHEREAS the Nottawasaga River merits continued protection with respect to a pro-active approach to the regulation of navigational matters;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Township of Clearview respectfully requests that the Federal Government adds the Nottawasaga River, including its primary tributaries, to those waterways to be regulated under the Navigation Protection Act; and further, that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Honourable Kellie Leitch, M.P., as well as Jim Wilson, M.P.P., along with an accompanying letter seeking their support for the Township’s request.
AWARE Simcoe has also made presentations to Wasaga Beach and Collingwood councils as well as the Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority. The next scheduled presentation is to Springwater Council on Tuesday February 18.
