Unanimous vote on Balm Beach parking issue
Report from the August 8 meeting of Tiny Township Council
By Vickie Kee AWARE Tiny August 11 2011
There is a great concern by council that the water supply at Georgian Sands and Lafontaine are showing increased levels of nitrate which is approaching the MOE limit.
There are treatment processes that could be used but this would produce some waste. Other ideas that were mentioned were a new well and a water
treatment plant. The council wants design approvals by the spring of 2012 and tender and construction in the summer/fall. It is going to cost but it is an important issue and we are in a crisis here. One councillor mentioned that we do not want another “Walkerton”. A time frame is needed to make the right decision.
Cheers and boos
There will be paid and permit parking coming to Balm Beach in the spring of 2012. It was a unanimous decision by Tiny Council. There was no decision on the Balm Beach road issue. The ideas that were mentioned were: a solution for businesses, the widening of Balm Beach road, curfew on parking, one side parking and one councillor actually said that the beaches of Tiny should be open to Tiny residents only – which caused a lot of boos and a few cheers from the audience.
Bottled water
The letter from the Council Of Canadians about banning bottled water in municipal facilities was deferred after having a short discussion on this topic.
