In a 2016 report prepared by the County’s consultant (GHD) the expected timeline provided for the County Official Plan Amendment approval was October 2016. On January 2, 2019 notice was sent out that the Province has approved the County’s Official Plan Amendment for the development of the ERRC (Environmental Resource Recovery Centre) in the Freele Forest on Horseshoe Valley Road.
Simcoe County’s OP Amendment No. 2
The decision by the Province to support the OPA for this County driven project may not come as a surprise to some, possibly most of you. No doubt, we were all holding out hope that a good decision would be made which would demonstrate support for the protection of this ‘Significant Woodlot’.
Now is time to communicate with your Councillors. Newly formed Municipal councils and newly formed Simcoe County Council need to be informed and kept abreast on the multitude of unanswered and unresolved concerns expressed from countless constituents on the ERRC project.
An Official Plan Amendment and rezoning amendments are still required at the local Municipality level (Springwater). Springwater Council will be discussing this and next steps with respect to the ERRC at the next meeting on January 9th.
It’s time for friends, families and neighbours to come together and attend this very important meeting.
Get up, stand up. Stand up for your rights. Get up, stand up, don’t give up the fight. Bob Marley
