Province wants region to use local lake to service future growth

he province is forcing York Region to turn Lake Simcoe into a water treatment centre to accommodate massive growth and servicing in northern York Region over the next 20 years.
The region acknowledges the Environment ministry-mandated “made in York” solution to servicing area growth is “a radical change” from decades of servicing needs that involved drawing water from Lake Ontario, York’s director of capital planning and environmental services Daniel Kostopoulos said.
