No policy regarding free use of facilities

Barrie’s community grants program has gone from hero to zero.
City councillors decided Monday to do away with the $100,000 fund, which is for community groups and organizations looking for money for their events and programs.
“We are looking at a 5.4% tax increase (this year),” said Coun. John Brassard. “We have to look after our own house. That $100,000 can go a long way.
“We just can’t give money away.”
Coun. Michael Prowse, who is also chairman of the city finance committee, made a similar argument.
