A petition calling on the Ontario government to protect the Niagara Escarpment has now garnered more than 4,000 signatures.
The petition, created by Escarpment Corridor Alliance, warns that the region’s natural features are under threat because of development.
In particular, the group is fighting the Castle Glen project and what might take place with the former Talisman property, developments the group says threatens thousands of acres on the ecologically-sensitive escarpment.
“The Castle Glen development received initial approval almost 50 years ago. Without the great-great-grandfathering of this outdated planning decision this would never be approved today,” said ECA president Bruce Harbinson.
The Castle Glen development contemplates the construction of approximately 1,600 homes, commercial space, a hotel, and three golf courses on the brow of the escarpment.
