‘It doesn’t make a lot of sense’: Midland mayor baffled by county growth allocations

An additional 150 people and the loss of more than 1,000 jobs.
Those are the latest numbers being allocated to the town of Midland between 2031 and 2051.
Mayor Stewart Strathearn is dumbfounded by the latest growth allocations outlined in the current draft land needs assessment being undertaken by the County of Simcoe.
“We are looking at a considerable shortfall being allocated to Midland,” said Strathearn. “It doesn’t make a lot of sense, when you realize there are about 3,000 homes approved to move forward in the town of Midland.”
Municipalities are required to plan for growth to the year 2051 and bring their official plans into conformity with Ontario’s Growth Plan.
