Oro-Medonte council ruling ‘in the shadows,’ says resident
Councillor Shawn Scott says move encourages engagement by citizens

Depending on who is weighing in, government transparency is either alive and well in Oro-Medonte or under increasing threat.
Township resident Gene Stein is among those raising concerns that the latter is too often the case.
“This council in particular has been trying to move in the shadows as much as possible, and take out any kind of public input and public discussion as far as any of the rulings they are rendering or the decisions they are making,” Stein told Simcoe.com.
Fuelling Stein’s concerns was a recent decision he and others say hinders wider public access to the goings-on at council meetings.
“They don’t like the public knowing what is going on,” said Stein, president of the Maplewood Ratepayers Association.
