Axing tree-seed plant in Angus will come at great cost: industry experts
Nursery disputes claims private sector can meet capacity

Southern Ontario’s largest producer of seedlings is rejecting the rationale being used by the province to close the Ontario Tree Seed Plant in Angus.
Dave Harbec, the manager of Somerville Seedlings in Everett, participated in the discussions that were held at the facility last week to inform industry experts and stakeholders about how the province will be dismantling the facility over the coming months.
“We understand it’s a done deal, but we still don’t agree with the decision or the analysis or process that was done,” he said. “It was all done behind closed doors as everybody knows.”
